Robert Gloer

Chief Executive Officer and President

As Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President at IOU, Robert Gloer is responsible for the overall strategy and operations of the company. His experience and leadership have been laser-focused on delivering technology-driven financial solutions for small businesses in the US while driving profitable revenue growth.

Over his 25+ years in financial services, Robert has successfully held senior leadership roles within the wholesale mortgage lending arena, where he oversaw all Sales and Operations teams in the Eastern Region of the US, originating over US$4.5B annually as well as a US$500m annual P&L. He was instrumental in Investor Relations, secondary Marketing, and Underwriting. Robert also served as COO and President at IOU Financial since co-founding the company in 2008 and until his appointment to CEO in 2021.

Over the last decade, Robert has helped guide IOU Financial through the entrance and opportunity of technology-enabled lending into the modernization of leveraging data analytic techniques coupled with smart underwriting decisions.

In Robert’s free time, he loves boating, traveling, and enjoying life with his wife and two sons. Robert takes vision and makes it a reality through comprehensive strategy development.

Madeline Wade

Executive Vice President of Operations

As Executive Vice President of Operations, Madeline Wade’s top priority is making decisions to ensure the organization is profitable and sustainable. Madeline comes with over 20 years of experience in financial services and operations., including serving as Vice President of Operations from 2008 and until her appointment in 2021.

Madeline is responsible for a range of operational areas across IOU including Loan Processing, Underwriting, Loan Services, Customer Support, workflow management, and general business efficiencies. Incorporating lean origination policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives, Madeline strives to ensure IOU Financial’s competitiveness in the marketplace. She makes sure our highly skilled and experienced Operations team is motivated to produce top quality service to our clients.

Prior to IOU Financial, Madeline worked for several wholesale mortgage lenders in different capacities including Automated Underwriting Trainer and Support, Level II Underwriter, and Loan Account Process Manager.

In Madeline’s free time, she loves enjoying quality time with her husband and two daughters and spending lazy days on the lake with great friends and family.

Madeline believes that simply taking care of your people, focusing on the client, and acting on what is important is the path where ultimately success will reveal itself.

Jeff Turner

Executive Vice President of Risk Mitigation

As Executive Vice President of Risk Mitigation, Jeff Turner is responsible for leading internal underwriting methods and procedures to ensure risk management and lending compliance is maintained. He comes to IOU with over 25 years of experience in underwriting and financial services and has served as Vice President of Credit and Compliance from 2013 until 2021.

Jeff is responsible for guiding the strategic and tactical direction for risk selection. He also provides leadership and decision support for the Underwriting and Funding departments.

Prior to IOU Financial, Jeff worked in multiple capacities in the wholesale and retail mortgage lending space. He was responsible for overseeing Sales and Operations with a monthly production of over US$100m. Jeff received his B.A. degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University in 1982.

In Jeff’s free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and visiting his son who lives in Chicago. He also enjoys a nice day on the beach, a cool evening in the mountains, or a hot summer day on the lake, doing all kinds of watersports.

Jeff’s focus and beliefs are that diligent actions related to guidelines, policy, and procedures keep the organization disciplined in mitigating risk.

James Douglas

Chief Financial Officer

James is an experienced financial executive and former public accounting audit partner with a strong track record supporting high-growth public and pre-IPO companies across the fintech, payments, technology, and entertainment sectors. He is known for pairing deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, bringing a disciplined, scalable approach to financial management, risk oversight, and organizational development.

He currently serves as Chief Financial Officer at IOU Financial, where he is responsible for the company’s overall financial strategy and operations. In this role, he oversees accounting and financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow and treasury management, KPI design and performance reporting, enterprise risk management, and process improvement initiatives. He partners closely with executive leadership to support growth, ensure financial discipline, and align capital and operational decisions with long-term business objectives.

Previously, James served as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Accounting Officer, and Controller at Kabbage, Inc., prior to its acquisition by American Express. There, he led all accounting and finance functions and played a key role in scaling the company’s financial infrastructure during a period of rapid growth. His leadership supported the raising of $400 million in equity capital and more than $1 billion in asset-backed debt facilities, including the $250 million Series F investment from the SoftBank Vision Fund, while strengthening internal controls, SOX and SEC readiness, enterprise risk management, and financial systems.

A proud graduates of the University of Florida, James spent 14 years at EY earlier in his career, where he advanced to Audit Partner and led global teams serving a Fortune 500 high-growth financial services technology company. His experience includes extensive work in SEC reporting, complex technical accounting, capital markets transactions, and financial due diligence, as well as leading large, multi-disciplinary teams through periods of significant growth—experience that continues to inform his practical, risk-aware approach to financial leadership.

Noel Hillman

Executive Vice President Production

As EVP of Production at IOU Financial, Noel Hillman leads the company’s end-to-end revenue strategy, overseeing sales, partnerships, marketing, and customer growth across IOU’s small business lending platform. With a deep focus on scalable growth and disciplined execution, Noel is responsible for driving originations, expanding distribution channels, and strengthening IOU Financial’s position as a trusted capital partner for small businesses.

Noel brings over 15 years of experience building and scaling revenue organizations within financial services, fintech, and B2B technology companies. Prior to joining IOU Financial, he held senior leadership roles at Stenn Technologies, Pipe Technologies, and Kabbage (American Express); where he successfully launched new go-to-market strategies, optimized sales operations, and built high-performing teams that consistently exceeded growth targets.

At IOU Financial, Noel plays a central role in aligning product innovation with customer needs, leveraging data-driven insights to improve conversion, retention, and lifetime value. He works closely with executive leadership to ensure that revenue initiatives support long-term profitability, risk discipline, and sustainable expansion.

Noel is known for a collaborative leadership style, a strong customer-centric mindset, and a passion for empowering small businesses with fast, transparent access to capital. He holds a degree in Finance from Bradley University and an MBA from The University of Georgia and is based in Atlanta, GA.

Carl Brabander

Executive Vice President of Partnerships

As EVP of Partnerships Carl Brabander oversees identifying and developing new opportunities to grow IOU’s referral network.

Carl has a passion for optimizing the interactions between people and brands using a blend of art (creativity) and science (analytics) to inform strategy; over 20+ years he has applied this approach to bring innovation and growth to leading brands in the financial services, technology and franchising sectors. Carl believes in the power of small business to drive economic growth by being more agile, creative and driven than their corporate counterparts, giving IOU Financial an important role to play in fueling the economic recovery in communities across North America.

Carl’s Dalhousie MBA experience impressed upon him the true meaning of “work hard, play hard”, and his free time is spent enjoying cars, music and vintage audio equipment.

Jeff Dernavich

Head of Product

As Head of Product, Jeff is responsible for IOU Financial’s platform, including prioritizing development efforts to support organizational goals, setting product roadmaps, and ensuring a high-quality user experience for internal teams and customers. He focuses on aligning product strategy and investment with business objectives to support IOU Financial’s continued growth and efficiency. Jeff also mentors, develops, and coaches product teams while fostering strong product cultures grounded in collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Before joining IOU Financial, Jeff built and scaled product organizations across high-growth SaaS startups as well as both high-growth and established technology companies. He has led cross-functional teams through significant market shifts and growth phases, from early-stage environments to scaling organizations. Jeff has worked across a range of software categories including FinTech, LegalTech, eCommerce, and MarTech, serving B2B, B2C, and B2B2C audiences. This breadth of experience enables him to quickly understand complex domains and deliver practical, effective solutions. He has also authored three patents, reflecting his contributions to technology and product innovation.

Jeff graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University and is a passionate Boston sports fan. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing games, traveling, and never missing an opportunity to deliver a well-timed dad joke.

Evan Sparkman

Head of Engineering

With more than 16 years of experience in software engineering and technical leadership, Evan Sparkman is an engineering leader recognized for building high-performing teams, driving technical modernization, and delivering scalable systems that support business growth. He brings deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and modern web technologies, with a strong track record of guiding distributed teams through complex technical initiatives.

As Head of Engineering at IOU Financial, he leads the engineering organization responsible for the company’s loan origination and processing platforms. In close partnership with executive leadership, he aligns technical strategy with business objectives while driving improvements in system reliability, security, and performance across the company’s infrastructure. Previously, he held engineering management roles at Box, Popmenu, and Listen360, where he progressed from senior engineer to web architect to engineering manager. At these companies, he led teams building cloud content management systems, restaurant technology platforms, and customer engagement solutions—gaining broad experience in scaling applications and mentoring engineering talent across diverse business models.

Earlier in his career, Evan built a strong technical foundation at Adobe, Cox Automotive, and Ericsson, working on marketing technology platforms, automotive dealer systems, and video-on-demand applications. This breadth of experience across fintech, enterprise software, and consumer technology informs his pragmatic approach to engineering leadership today—one that balances technical excellence, team development, and operational discipline to deliver lasting results.

Liz Lowman

Head of Marketing

With more than 20 years of cross-industry experience, Liz Lowman is a marketing and communications leader recognized for driving growth through data-informed strategy, operational rigor, and collaborative leadership. She brings deep expertise in building disciplined processes, guiding high-performing teams, and partnering closely with stakeholders across an organization to align marketing with broader business objectives.

As Head of Marketing at IOU Financial, she leads integrated marketing strategy across wholesale and direct channels, driving brand growth and measurable performance. In close partnership with executive leadership, she aligns marketing initiatives to company goals while leveraging data and market insights to uncover opportunities and optimize results.

Previously, she has held senior marketing leadership roles at companies such as Knotch and FortifyData, where she led campaign planning and analysis, marketing operations and automation, and KPI-driven performance optimization in collaboration with C-suite leaders. Her background also includes experience in association management, event marketing, and content leadership, giving her a unique ability to blend strategic vision with strong execution across diverse business models.

Earlier in her career, Liz built a strong foundation in communications, content, and employee engagement across healthcare, franchising, and professional associations. This breadth of experience informs her holistic approach to marketing today—one that balances brand storytelling, performance marketing, and operational excellence to drive sustainable growth.
